Imagine for a moment you are spending a lazy afternoon in one of the quaint little towns scattered across Kentucky, stopping for moment in a local coffee shop to enjoy a fresh hot cup of coffee on a cold cloudy day, when you look out the window and start seeing snow flakes, the only think left to do is grab a camera and a couple who can command your attention. Amanda & Aldo traveled down from Michigan to spend a romantic weekend together in their favorite hide out just a few hours from home, Louisville, the city has captured their hearts as much as each other did. What started out as just another chilly afternoon turned into a winter wonderland with a very romantic twist. We are so looking forward to their September wedding!
Oh what an absolutely beautiful spring day, even being jet lagged from an 18 hour trip back from the UK I still found the energy to meet up with Ron and Natalie in one of Louisville’s great city parks. Cherokee Park’s main feature is the 2.4-mile Scenic Loop, with separate lanes for vehicle traffic (one-way) and recreational users. One of the original parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the park provides a pastoral setting amid rolling hills, open meadows and woodlands of the Beargrass Creek valley.
One month ago I was heading home from Las Vegas where I attended a day long course with the infamous SoCal shooters Justin and Amelia Lyon. What a fantastic time it was, getting to peek behind the curtain and see how they do things. The day started off getting to meet Boston photographer Lindsey Light, her work is very inspiring and so smooth, not something I would normally expect from the eastern seaboard, which I suppose explains why she was attending this workshop! Getting to tag along with the Lyons and the other attendees while they did an engagement shoot was absolutely fantastic. Making use of the surroundings, the clouds, the sky, the passing cars, everything they do has a purpose. Several things I have taken away from this workshop are that anyone can shoot a wedding with a digital camera, and while putting your creative vision into the shots goes along way, what makes you unique is when you go out of your way to understand your client and give them a sense of how much you actually care that they have chosen to have you, their photographer, a part of this wonderful event. I will continue to ponder the events of this day for years to come, integrating concepts and ideas that will make my photos not only stand out from other wedding photographers, but to try and build a legacy that others will look to when they think of wedding photographers.
Photos from the workshop are posted at Amelia’s blog and if you are looking for a photographer in the Boston area be sure to check out Lindsey Light
